The Meat-Preserving Worksat(Rockhampton wero totally destroyed by fire to-day. The loss is estiinateel at £90,000, of which £25,000 is covered by insurance. Tho following are the policies held by New Zealand offices :—Colonial lnsuranco, New Zealand, £2,100, three-fourths reinsured ; United Insurance Company and South British, each £2,100; New Zealand lnsuranco Company, £2,200, of which £875 is reinsured; Union lnsuranco Company, Nyw Zealand, £5,000 ; National lnsuranco Company, New Zealand, £1,000. The remainder is held by English offices. The Meat-Preserving Works at Rookhampton were situated at Lake Creek. The entire works, comprising several largo buildings, wero totally destroyed, only some machinery boing saved. A cargo of frozen meat which was being prepareel for tho steamer Fiaelo was also consumed. Brisbane, this day. The firat estimate of £90,000 as the loss by tho fire at Roekhampton is overstated. A fresh case of small-pox has occurred amongst thoso in quarantine from the steamship Duko of Westminster. The person attaekeel was one of tho stevedores of vessels. The steamship Nowsherra has arrived here from London with soventy cases of measles and typhoid fever on board, and has been orderod into quarantine.
