H.M.S. NELSON.
THK electric light was shown from 11.M.5. Nelson last evening, and was watched with considerable interest by many persons whose attention had been attracted by the brilUncy of the illumination. Oue of the torpedo boats was got out this morning, and the crew had some practice in the harbour. The effect of one concussion was felt perceptibly by boats in the water saveral hand red yards off; the sensation was said to bo anything but pleasant. At 2 o'clock in tho afternoon His Worship the Miyor (Mr J. M. Clark) and the Town Clerk (Mr P. A. Phillips) went off in tho Customs launch tojvisit the Commodore, and were courteously welcomed on board. The Nelson will probably bo thrown open to the public at an early date. In the hurry of preparing our report of the arrival of h.M. Nelson yesterday, one or two errors crept in. It was stited that the vessel shipped a heavy sea on the 15th near the entrance to Auckland harbour. It should have rcao. off the East Cape, the sea referred to being shipped during the storm encountered off the Cape. The expression "shot down the top sail yards," should have read "sent down the top-sail yards."
As per appointment, at 1.30 to-day, the Chairman of the Harbour Board (Mr Compto»), Mr Brigham (secretary), and the Chief, Harbour-master went aboard H.M.S. Nelson in the Tongariio, and welcomed tbe Commodore to the port. The chairman placed at tbe disposal of the Commodore the services of tho harbour officials and tho records of the office.
