ON A LADY'S CARRIAGE.

Robert Schoficld was charged with a breach of the Kailway by-laws, by entering a railway carriage set apart for the accommodation ot fernalesjttiul remaining in such carriage after being warned to leave the same, on the Anckland and Waikato Kailway, on the 17th December,

Defondant admitted having got on to the platform. Mr Pardy said the Offence lay in not Retting off the carriage when requested to do so by the railway official. George Elliott, guard on the Auckland Railway, deposed that ho was on tho front part of a tram in which there was a carriage especially set apart for ladies. Pope, tho porter, drew attention to the fact that Schoficld was at the door of the carriage with a large case. Witness went there, and found defendant in the pla;c indicated. He refused to go away, and witness removed him by force, and cave him into the custody of a porter while the train started. Defendant said he wished to have it tested whether the railway authorities cduH set apart a second-class train for the exclusive use of ladies. The case which defendant had at the door had been booked as a parcel and placed in the van as such. Schofield took it out of the van, and sat upon it at the door of the carriage.
