CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A special meeting of the Chamber of Csiumeree for the purpose of considering the proposed remission of the American *00l district, and the desirability of sending a New Zealand delegate to the United States in order to aassist in the achievement of that result was held this afternoon. Mr C, C. McMillan (chairman) and about 25 other members were present. The meeting was duly opened withanexplanatory statement by the ChairmaD, after which Mr Oppenheimer, in a forcible speech, advised the despatch of a special dcligate from this colony to America. MrThos. T. Gamble (Agent of the Pacific Steamship Co.) explained the position of tho matter at present in the United States, and the proffer which his Company had made to grant free passages to Washington to any representatives which New South Wales and New Zealand might choose to send to Congress in support of tho remission of the wool duties. Mr L. D. Nathan proposed, and Mr John Lamb seconded, " That this Chamber is of opinion that a representative from the New Zealand Government, to act with Sir Henry Parkcs, should be sent to Washington to urce upon tho Government of the United States the importance of reducing their present wool tariff as far as New Zealand is concerned, and tbat the Committee of this Chamber are requested to interview the Hon. Mr Whitaker and urge upon him the Importance) of sending such a representative. The resolution was then put and carried. (Left sitting.)
