The start was a good one, the colours of Itichmond, Orient, Hesperian, and Canary showiug at the head of affairs, and, as soon as they settled to work, Hesperian went to the front, and led Orient and and Richmond a length up the bill, Canary half a, length away and pulling hard ; Canary then took up the running, aud, when pawinj? the trainer's stand, had a length aud a half advantage of Orient, who was closely followed by Hesperian and a clustered lot, the last beingßraidwood, Richmond, and Strathearn, Templar, on the outside, then made a bit of a lun, and turned into the straight within a neck of Canary, the Wandering Jew next —against the rails, with Orient in the centre, and followed Dy [Black Swan, Major, and Progress. Something now apper.red to happen to Tho Wandering Jew, for he left the rails and attempted to come up on the outside of his horses. Canary led Hesperian half a length past the stand, and a length from the chfstnut came Orient and Black Swan, attended by Major and Templar, and a couple of lengths from tho latter could be seen The Pontiff and Guoild, followed by The Wandering Jew, Progressand Wellington. Theothcrspretty close together, with Cynic and Strathearu last. Hespeiian joined Canary at the tan crossing, and the pair rattled past Cutts' on terms, half a length in front of Tho Wandering Jew, whose immediate followers were Barber, The Pontiff, Gunild, and Black Swan, who were clear of Braidwood, Progress, and Wellington. Templar now retired, and Barber began to forge his way through his horses. Canary and Hesperian led up the hill, and Progress, on the outside, begau to show a prominent front. When tho hill was topped Progress aud Wellington bad disposed of Black Swan, Braidwood, The Pontiff, Gunild, and Orient, and The Wandering Jew ; disappeared into tho ruck. Canary and Hesperian led Progress and Wellington

round the bend : and, after the St. Leger winner, could be seen Barber and Strathearn, who, with Richmond at his side, was coming very fast. Heie the Wandering Jew began to join the leaders, and Hesperian, who was racing Canary for the lead, began to falter. Canary, in sad trouble, turned into the straight with a slight advantage of Hesperian who cried enough, and Progress, running up on the outside, cut Canaiy down, and drawing away from Wellington, was clear of his field at the distance, and the race waa over. Strathearn, Richmond, Wellington, aud the Waudering Jew, who were in a cluster, then clostd up, and a great lace for places ensued, Strathearn beating The Wandering Jew by lialf-a--length for second honours. Richmond, on the outside, was defeated by a short head for third place, and, a lit ad from him, came Wellington. Canary was a length' from Wellington, aud then followed Barber, Uraidwood, Black Swan, The Pontiff, Gunild, Hesperian, Orient, Cynic, Major, and Templar. Time : 3 minutos 3G 8-10 seconds.
