Rewi's New Mansion.

It has also been reported that though the house at Kihikihi designed for his residence has been completed and furnished in readiness for his occupation, he declines to tako possession. This we learn is true. His reason is that Mr Sheehan promised when the place was finished to formally hand over the house and a Crown Grant for the allotment on which it stands ; but as Mr Sheehan is no longer in office, Rewi is under the belief that the present Native Minister does not intend to fulfil the promise. Kewi says, however, that he will decline to occupy the place on sufferance, and will not take up his residence in it until the title is handed over. If Kewi remains obdurate and the Government does not see its way_ to give a clear title, perhaps some poor civil servant in reduced circumstances with a young family might see bis way to solve the difficulty, by accepting a rent free occupation "on sufferance" for a few years.
