A.R.C. SUMMSR MEETING.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Racing is sufficient a lottery'to Owners of horses, without it being made more so by the Auckland Racing Club deferring the appointment ot a handicappcr for the Auckland Summer Meeting till after the nominations for the principal races are due. Perhaps tha Secretary of the Auck!and Racing Club desires to try his hand at ,he handicapping, but if the Club allow it itbey will make a mistake. When my horse, King Quail; won the Cup at the Ellerslie Gardens, Mr Hunt, owner of Yatapa, the socond horse in tho races, entered a protest against King Quail. This I looked upon just as a trick of the trade, but whon
1 was informed thaat Mr Pcrcival, secretary of tho Auckland Racing Club, had also entered a protest against my horse for somo fancied interest he had in Vampire, I drew the conclusion that he could mako an impartial handicap. Surely, if the Club bestir themselves, they can yet secure tho services of a veteran handicapper, and by giving timely notice of it will thoreby considerably add to the number of nominations fpr the handicap races for their summer Teeting.— I am, &c, ~„-,, ..S.-£ .HORSFALL.
