It is disputed that a jet of water1 rubbing against another jet develops electricity. The " Thames Advertiser " contains the following notice of new industry at Tararu : — "Mr Bennett, of the Tararu Gardens, has discovered a valurble strata of crude hematite of vastly superior nature to any yet found on the Thames. The raw material has been placed in the hands of a practical colour manufacturer, who has prononnced a very favourable opinion upon it. The tints obtainable are of a rich and pleasing variety, alternating from a deep brown, to several shades of red down to a golden buff colour. Its drying properties are admirable, and its thick consistency and body closely resembles lead or zinc paint. Mr Bennet ailirms that he is aware of the locality of vast quantities of this valuable mineral oxide, and proposes to" secure the co-opera-tion of capitalists in order to prepare the paint for an immediate market, beyeral Auckland gentlemen have interested themselves in the discovery, and are willing to become shareholders in a company which shall have its factory on this field. Mr Bennett proceeds to Auckland to-day with prepared samples of his colours both unmi&d a»d in oil.. Tb,e several autii ties of this oil may be seen a£ the osce of this paper by any gentlenia© who m*y feel an interest in this matter. Samples of the paint were left at the Star office ihu morning, and so far as we are able to judge of their quality, we can endorse the opinion expressed by our Thames contemporary.
