NEWTON.
By a curious typographical blunder the report of the meetiig of ratepayers for this district got mixed up with the ratepayers' meeting for Ngartawahia. We give both reports to-day in their corrected form.
The annual meeting of the ratepayers of Newton and distrist took place at the Star Hotel on Friday jvening. The meeting was well atten_ed,aid Mr McNairwas voted to the chair. The following balance-sheet was read and adopted:—Balance in bank, £87 17s sd; Gene-al Government, £143 15s Id; rates oollettcd, £79 4s lOd; contribution from Mr laulder, £15 15s ; total, £326 12s. The principal expenditure was— Scoria, £135 18s _; labour, £49 OslOd; contract, £20 ; balaice in hand, £821Gs 6d. The balance-sheet hvas adopted, on the motion of Mr Donald. Seven gentlemen were proposed as trustees for trie ensuing year, and a ballot vas taken, resulting as follows:—Mr McNtir, jun., 44 ; Mr 1511----liugton, 43 ;Mr Jaulder, 37; Mr Warnock, 36 ; Mr _-lcber, 34 ; Mr Thompson, 19 ; and Mr Donafl, 12. The first five were duly elected.; Messrs McNair, sen., aud R. Waruock were re-elected.
