ARRESTING A SUPPOSED OUTLAW.
Some few nights ago a person on horsobnck arrived, at a cortnin hotel not a ! hundred miles from Waniraratta, at about 1 or 2 o'clock on Sunday morning, and asked if he could be accoinodated with : quarters for himself and horse. The land- : lord replied in the allirmative. The traveller was introduced to tile gentleman who buses thostables in connection with the hotel, and asked him to have a drink. After talking of that never-failing subject, tbe weather, the conversation turned upon the exploits of the Kelly gang, when the stranger said that the gang consisted o£ a lot of fine fellows. The suspicious of the master of the stables were aroused, and he imagined that the man was no other than one of the notorious gang. The horse placed in the stables was afterwards minutely examined, and, wonderful to state, it was discovered •tobo a Government animal. This startling fact also lent additional weight to the stablekecper's suspicion ; and then there was the reward of the very handsome sum of £2000 to anyone who would be instrumental in the capture of any one member of the gang, anil he resolved (o till (he polico all I the ciremvmtancos. The result of such ] information was that three members of the i force made iip their minds to cll'cct the stranger's capture; so, with this iutent, they made for the room of the supposed outlaw, who, strange to say, in a public j hotel, and in a populous place, was sweetly j enjoying thy very great blessing of a good j sound sleep, when lie was rudely awakened I from his peaceful slumbers by a still strong arm seizing him by the throat, and nearly on the verge of choking him. Another ! csouslubl? had been stationed at the lower I extremities, whilst another held a revolver tremulously in his hands at the bedroom donr, so as to stop ail cgrejst train the apartment!. 'J lieu there was a lull; and judgc^of i Urn astouishment of the myrmidons oj the. j law when th,ey discovered that tUo supposed bushranger ■was no oth,or than a special constable on the same' mission as tiiein. selves.-viz, iii trying to capture the' Kellys. —" Oveus Advertiser," . :
