District Prize Firing.
SECOND SET RIFLES,
The second set. riiles competed for District Prizes to-day. Firing commenced at 8 o'clock. Major Derroio, assisted by Major Morrow, conducted the firing. The following ' ;e the names of the range prize winners :—2OO yards, Lambert, 1; Edmunds, 2. 300 yards, Trayes, 1; J. McLeod, 2. 400 yards, McLeod, 1; Travcs, 2. 600 yards) Stewart, 1; McLeod, 2. The lirst range prize was 10s., and the second, ss. Major Derroin has received a notification from the Defence. Officer that the annual inspection of the corps of this district will take place under Lieutenant Colonel Packc, of Canterbury district, who will proceed to Auckland for that purpose immediately after the conclusion of the New Zealand Rifle Association firing at Kelson. The lirst inspection will take place within a fortnight. It is hoped therefore that the members will attend in large numbers and acquit themselves creditably, and so annul the unjust reflection cast upon them by the recent Canterbury telegram. The Cadet firing is on Saturday at 1 p.m.
