The delayed telegram system has already proved a remarkable success, considerably swelling the receipts of the department. It is found, however, that the public do not take that advantage of the reduced rates, which a more extensive knowledge of it would certainly induce. All messages marked " delayed" may be sent at 6d for the first ten words, and id for .every additional word, with postage added, the telegrams being wired at night and posted to their various addresses. Where the mes&ago is not of an urgent nature the system is a very economical one, and offers to those merchants and others whose telegraphic business is extensive a means of effecting a considerable saving. The delay is itself so trifling as to be quite divested of inconvenience, and iv many cases where there is a block on the wires or the person to whom the telegram is addressed resides at a distance from the receiving telegraph station, the delayed message will reach its destination as early as that for which full rates are paid. In the interests of economy the public will do well to more fully avail itself of the delayed system.
