Mb Elwin B DICK3OX, Government Observer, in his weaihcr report for tho past weok. states that both barometer and thermometer exhibited a very marked fall from the previous woek. the lowest fall of tho barometer being on the 28th nit. (29.515). The maximum rise t/iisoii the xnomintc of the 4th (30.148), the mean for the week being 29.887. The average day heat has been 74.2, with a maximum of 78.2 for the 3rd January; the coolest day bsing the 29th December (71.6). The night average is 0b.3. lhe rainfall has been, as throughout Itho summer, very small. The exact total amount has bsen 315 inches; the expectations (according to the averages of previous years) bomg about oißhtteoths. The averaga velocity ot the wind about 329* miles, or nearly 13S miles per hour. The" average of cLuid registered is 5 On cosing up the returns for the year 18/8, it 13 found that the total rainfall has been very much below an averaga. Tht3 mean amount registered at this station for as many years back as there are observations available, ha* been abo>it 4U inches ; the year 1876 being as nearly as possible an average season.
