NAPIER, this day. Charles Stewart, late landlord: of the Pacific Hotel, Havelock, was committed for trial yesterday, oti a charge of obtaining a registered letter, containing- jewellery, etc., value of about £50. It was brought out in the evidence that .there: were-two Charles Stuarts residing in the district,1 one signing himself Stewart and. the other Stuart; one was a publican, and the;other a sheep farmer. The former*wasvgrnafcHhe letter by the postal authorities; appropriated it, and gave the jewellery to certaifffe'fiiale friends, stating it was sent out to/Mm; by his brother; whereas the'jeweUeryffwas really given by Mr Stuart to a female friend when on a visit to.
