The Kaiuma is also reported as missing from New Ply mouth, is a topsail schooner and.not a steamer. Mr Hunter, of the Auckland firm of Hunter-?and Nolan, [ assisted in loading her with sheiep, and she left Waitara on Wednesday the 14th, at half-past 11. ' Mr Superintendent Thomson has received intelligence from the Raglan Station, which confirms the fears that a wreck has occurred. A native brought word ito the Station at noon on the 19th inst., that a quantity of wreckage had been washed ashore at the South Head: ■ The constable on proceeding to the place indicated, found thirty carcases of fat sheep (no brands) .which the natives' said came ashore on the previous night.' Also a small ladder and a semi-circular box, • made with 7 by 2 battens, 2 feet 3 inches in length, painted Prussian blue and white alternately; The box is of the kind used for coveringthe ruddert-shaft, and'is now in the constable's possession. Constable BulTford was also informed by a'■ settler, ..living at Kuapuke, distant-18 miles from "Raglan,: that on Friday last a portion of a false keel, a quantity of onions, a box of candles, and several sheep's cai'casses had cpme ashore upon .Ruapuke ; beach." The sighting of a three-masted steamer (proba- ■ bly the Go-ahead) was also ■ mentioned by 'the constable, who says, "The natives living at the South Head says she appeared .to be in distress, as they heard guns fired, •and" saw the seas breaking over her."
