A few pounds of good golden stone was obtained to-day from the hanging wall side of No. (i level. Gold is also shewing in the eastern end and lioor of the winze. The Hape Creek battery will probably start on Monday. A trial test of waterpace and turbine takes place thin afternoon before being taken over by the company. Five parties of tributers are now working the mine.

Charge of Bigamy-—An, "CTaif&itlifal Ifas'ba&cL.

This morning, Patrick Coghlan, who was for five years in the Napier police, was arrested on a charge of bigamy. It is said that Coghlan married, thirteen years ago, a girl named Catherine Casey, at Emu's, in Ireland, by whom he had three children lie emigrated to New Zealand with his wife's brother, and came by himself to Napier. He joined the Napier Police Force, and on the fifth of October, IS7I, again married Margaret, a sister of Mr Cosgrove, a well-known saddler, by whom he has also had three children. The brother of Goghlan's first wife has been living at Outran), near Dunedin, with whom Coghlan corresponded for some time after coming to Napier. Casey, not hearing from him for some years, believed .something had happened to Coghlan, and came to Napier by the Stormbird, on Wednesday night, to see after his welfare. It. then leaked out that Coghlan was in Napier, and married again. Accompanied by a policeman, who was armed with a warrant, Casey proceeded to the Corporation works, in Tennyson-street, yesterday morning. Mr Casey went up to Coghlan and said, "How are you getting on V" Coghlan made no reply. Casey then said, " Don't you know me '!" and turning to the policeman, said, " Tin's is the man."

A Port Chalmers private letter reports the death, in Melbourne, of Jno. W. Smith, well-known in theatrical circles. Longnet's alleged defalcations amount t«i over £400. SHOCKING ACC ID KNT. A lad named Kayo, aged eleven, went t*> the brick-works there, and in attempting t<> go aloft caught in the machinery, and was killed instantaneously, his head being almost severed from Iris body.

Mr Rossbotham, well-known in Dunedin sremanager for Kobinson and Co., implement makers, was charged to-day wilJi having forged a bill for £601. The evidence of one witness was taken, and the case was then remanded. The case arose out of certain partnership transactions.

The dates fixed for holding the Colonial Regatta are the 12th and 13th February. The amount of prize money is £400.

Dummyism in land speculation is said to prevail at Roxburgh. The matter wis brought under the notice of the Waste Lands Board yesterday. The Chief Commissioner is to inquire into it.

A lad named Hay, 12 years old, fell into the machinery at the Kensington brickkiln, and was killed instantaneously.
