KARANGAHAPE RATEPAYERS' MEETING.
A meeting of twelve of tho ratepayers of the Iviiranaaha;)c district was lie 1.1 last evening in the Newton Hall. The subject of the meeting was to consider the question of asphalting on the southern side of the rood. Air Thomas Barnes was called to the chair. Mr Young Warren was the first speaker, and said that although there were the greater number ot
shops and most traffic on the southern side of Karangahape Road, it had been systematically neglected by the District. Highway Board. He considered that the residents and owners of property on that aide, as they contributed largely :.o the rates, were entitled to consideration. It the Board refused to lay down asphalt on the same terms as the City Council had done on the other side of the thoroughfare, the residents should apply for admission in the city, in order to come to some definite ecu'so of action he would move that the following requisition be presented to the Highway Board:— To the Trustees of the Karangahape Highway Board.Gentlenien,—We, the undersigned ratepayers fronting the Karangahape Road, had that traffic and business are very much interfered with on account of the footpatn not being asphalted, and we therefore beg you to make some arrangements for having this work done or, if you car.not do that, to take the necessary steps to have our portion of the district annexed to the city." Mr McPherson agreed with the remarks'of Mr Warren, and_ seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. After some further discussion, in which the chairman and Mr James Davis took part. Messrs Barnes Lambourne, and Warren were deputed to wait utra the District Board with the memorial and to report the result at their next meeting, to. bo held at the same place on Thursday evening next. -
