THE OPERA.—MISS ROSE STELLA'S BENEFIT.

The wretched weather last night was calculated to make the winding up of the Soldene Opera Company's season very tame, but the announcement that Miss Rose Stella was to take her benefit proved an attraction which drew a good audience in spite of all drawbacks. The house was not only well attended, but the greatest enthusiasm prevailed. When the popular benefioiare made her appearance she was groeted ivith round after round of applause, which the gallant little lady acknowledged in military fashion. The opera of " Madame L'Archiduc" waa produced ia very complete style, and the performance, as a whole, was one of the best given by the Company. The popular interest in it culminated at the magnificent couplet of solos and duet between Mariette (Miss Soldene), and Fortunato (Miss Rose Stella), which brought down thunders of applause, and a vociferous encore. The conclusion of the first solo, by Miss Stella, was the signal for a shower of bouquets, thrown from all parts of the house at the feet of the singer. When Soldene finished her solo she was similarly honoured, and the duet was sung with a fervour and expressiveness that was perhaps accounted for by the appreciation of such decided marks of- public favour. The Company has now closed its Auckland season, and will leare probably to-morrow by the City of New York for Sydney and Melbourne, where they will play, and afterwards return to New Zealand, commencing at Dunedin, and working northward.
