NAPIER.
(From our own Correspondent.) This day. The Friendly Societies Bill.
A meeting of the Friendly Societies will be held here next week to discuss the proposed new Friendly Societies Bill. Mr Bowen's disavowals of there being an Industrial Branch connected with the Government Insurance, has caused much astonishment, seeing that there are agents in Wellington, Auckland, and other parts of tho colony.
Mr Sealey. A fierce paper war is raging between Mr Sealey, Commissioner of Crown Lands, and the Daily Telegraph, re the recent Timaru land scandal. Mr Sealey in the .Herald yesterday morning, wiites that his name acts on the Telegraph as a red flag to a bull. The Telegraph last night gives a short but very caustio reply. It quotes the decision of the select committee of the House of Representatives as to Russell's case, and says that it was through Mr Sealey's libel action that the land laws were altered for public benefit. It is generally considered that Mr Sealey was foolish in opening up a subject in which he shews to so small an advantage.
