Fire at Onehunga.

An alarm of fire was raised at Onehunga at two o'clock this morning, and it was discovered that the premises of Mr Henwood, butcher, were in flames. Constables Green and Gannon soon reached the spot, and with the assistance of Mr % Gwynne and others, took effectual measures for preventing the spread of the conflagration. Fortunately there was very Jlittle wind, or the adjoining houses must have caught. Mr Henwood was absent at Mangare, but a boy was sleeping in the place at the time of the outbreak, who had a narrow escape, as he was fast asleep till the fire had assumed alarming proportions. The house and shop were burnt to the ground. The furniture was insured in the Imperial Office for £ICO. The building, which belonged to Mr 0. C. Fleming, was uninsured. We are sorry to add that about half-past four o'clock the brick chimney fell, and in its descent struck an old man, a settler, named Jno. O'Neill. It was the greatest miracle the man was not killed, but as itjj happened he escaped with only some rather severe abrasions.
