Reply from Sir George Grey.
We have alre&dy intimated thatoDe thousand four hundred and eighty-seven signatures of electors appended to the petition to Sir George Grey, Messrs Reader Wood, O'Rorke, Sheehan, Swan_on, Dignan and 'Yon der Heyde, praying them to resist to the end the so called Abolition Bill had been forwarded to Wellington. By the Taupo to-day a further addition of three hundred and sixty-eight electors' names was transmitted, making a total of one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five signed within eight daya. It affords us much pleasure to be the medium in furnishing to the signers of the memorial the following reply to the fir_it instalment of the address, received from Sir George Grey by telegram last night : — " Government Buildings, " Wellington, Sept. 6, 1875. "To Evening Star, Auckland.
" To Promoters of Petition, per Favor of "22oeiihi<j Htar. " First part of petition received. Wil* show it to, and consult with representatives to whom it ia addressed. We are contending for the cause of public freedom and of the rights of the constituencies. Rely upon it that we will continue so to do. Full reply will be sent by letter. G. Grey."
