(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Emu in a Gale. The auxiliary steamer Emu has put in here. She encountered a heavy gale from N.E., which carried away her bowsprit and other Blight damage. Mr. C. Stone was landed on account of illness. He will leave in the lona. Captain Connell reports sighting this morningjoff Cape Brett, a barque, supposed to be the Prospector. Departures. B Departures —Schooner William and Julia, with coals for the Thames ; steamer lona, with cattle and general cargo, and the following passengers -Mrs E. Ford, family and servant, Rev, C. M. Nelson, Professor Bruce, Messrs McGinn, Kemp, Scarfe, C. Stone, junr., and several others in the steerage. Whilst the lona was coming alongside the Government wharf last night a man named Mum fell overboard, and but for the prompt assistance rendered by the bystander he would certainly have been crushed to death between the vessel and wharf. The lona, from Northern Ports to Mongonui, reports that the brig Derwent was towed outside Mongonui Heads by the lona. The Kebroyd is still in port. Wsawjauoa.—The vessels in harbour are Ebenezer and Venture, both loading timber. The schooner [Swallow failed yesterday for Auckland.
