THE HIBERNIAN BALL.

The Choral Hall, on the occasion of the St. Patrick's ball last evening, contained one of the most brilliant assemblages of ladies and gentlemen that have appeared on any previous gathering of the kind in the city. There were about three hundred couples present, all anxious for the syren strains of minstrelsy to set them in graceful motion ; and when the efficient and welltrained Hobson Band (under Bandmaster McComish) struck up, every eye gleamed with pleasure, and every foot was on the move. The members of the Order were conspicuous in the Hall by their emblems and rosettes ; as were also the representatives of other Auckland benefit societies. We noticed that the stewards were most assiduous ia their voluntary attention to the comfort of the dancers, and much credit is due to them. The spread, which was of a choice character, was provided by Mr Stacey, and the wines by Mr Hackett. The ball was carried on with spirit through the silent watches of the night, and was in every respect satisfactory. The society, therefore, are entitled to much credit for its success, the result of wise provision.
