HARBOUR BOARD.—This Day.

The regular meeting of the Harbour Board was held this afternoon at the offices, Fortstreefc. Present : Captain Daldy (chairman) Messrs Isaacs, Cosgrave, McKenzie, Eaton, Morton, Macfarlane, Yon der Heyde, Brett, and Tonks. EILOT SERVICE. A further report of the Pilot Service was read, recommending that tenders should be called for building a schooner about 28 tons register. The Chairman said that the Committee had come to the conclusion that the expense of a steam launch would be too great. After some discussion the report was agreed to. •finance. The Finance Committee's Report was read ami adopted. An item of City Rates, £12, elicited fpom the Chairman a remark that it wa3 only since the advent of certain parties fco power in the city, that the Board nad to pay rates. The Chairman informed the meeting that £50,000 worth of the debentures had been sent to Sydney by the last boat. The latest information as to the state of the market was favourable.

Four tenders were received for laying water-pipes from the railway station to the silt basins. Mr W. J. Marks' tender was accepted, the price being £148, for 2-inch cast iron pipes. The Chairman invited the members of the Board to be present at the reception of his Excellency the Marquis of Normanby. The programme would be intimated by Dr. Pollen as soon as he arrived.

HThe report of the Committee appointed to consider the question of obtaining water for the from Fort Britomart was read and adopted. This advocated the receiving of tenders for providing the same by means of pipes from the railway station to the wharf.

A letter from the Public Works Office, Wellington, was read, stating with reference to the proposed substitution of a hydraulic lift for the graving dock, that the Government could not consent to such an arrangem'nt. I^This concluded tlie business.
