A presentation has been made to Mr Young, of Palmerston, in recognition of his gratuitous and valuable services in the cause of Acclimatisation. A fatal accident oocured yesterday morning to Mr Robert Young, a farmer of Mosgiel, while bringing into town a load of oats in a dray drawn by three horses. At the time of the accident he was walking behind the team when something started the leader, a young horse, causing it to shy. The others started off. On attempting to stop them Mr Young was thrown down, and the wheel passed over his body. The weight of the dray was nearly three tons. Youn S' who retained consciousness, only lived about an hour afterwards. An accident on the Clutha line occurred yesterday. As the engine was bringing trucks, earth-laden, for reclamation purposes, William Lake, fireman, in unhooking the toll rope, got his foot m a fork of the crossing, and was unable to extricate it. The trucks came on crushing it into a pulp, and rendering amputation necessary.
