WELLINGTON.
(From our own Correspondent). This day.
The Times keeps hammering away at Mr Bowen's appointment in an angry fashion. The Tribune commends the appointment.
Mr Gisborne writes a letter to the Times thanking the editor for the personal courtesy with which his return to the Civil Service was referred to. He mentions the following instances of civil offices, having been held by Ministers before, during, and after their tenure of office : - Sir F. D. Bell, Dr Pollen, Mr Fitzherbert. No voice was ever raised against any of those of precedent. He says frankly he could not afford to forfeit his claims to pension accruing from 25 years service. It is stated that the stewards of the races have fixed a reserve of £600 upon the sale of the gates. They only realised £75 last year, and the buyer cleared about £50. Mr H. Tribe, M.H.R., is engaged working up a second Buildiog Society.
