THE TERRIBLE CALAMITY IN NEW YORK.
New York, Octobars There were about fifty persons injured'by the wild Texan steers yesterday dnrin»the raid through the streets. The herd ww being driven to Buffalo, and the drivers were care! less, allowing the animals to scatter in the lower parts of the city. Many persona were badly hurt internally, and others were disfigured for life, while not s, fewifljn r j,. bibly die. The shouts of men and bom maddened them, and caused them to rash in every direction, attacking ereryone they could reach Indescribable excitement in the street. Pistols, swords and knives were brought out, but the holders of the weapons teemed paralyzed, they not Lnowing what to do first. The police appeared to be as domoralized as the citizens. The bul's dashed down streets, tossing j goring and trampling everyone in the way' and into store windows, anywhere to escape the excited crowds surrounding and follouW ticm P.siols were fired carelessly, or so b idly aimed that several persois were injured by shots. Several bulls at length escaped to I tie river and jumped off the whams and I were drowned. I
