NAPIER.

(Per Anglo-Australian |Telegram Company.) This day. A meeting of the creditors of Stuart and Co., merchants, was held. The liabilities were stated to be £41,000 and the assets £42.000. A proposal was made by A. P. Stuart, O. Stevenson, and D. T. Stuart (of Wellington), that on condition of the creditors handing over the entire assets of the estate, they would offer a conipositionflof 15s in the £ ; one-fourth cash, the balance at three, six, and nine months, with interest at

six per cent. [Before accepting the offer the creditors desired to have the accounts and papers gone through, to see if the full amount could not be realized, Messrs T. 11, Newton, J. G. Kinnoss, B. Sutton, It. Maney, H. C. Robjohns were appointed a committee to report to the adjourned meeting on Monday. There is a strong feeling that the estate should pay 20s in tbe pound. A public meeting is convened for the 20th instant, to take into consideration the present position of the Jockey Club in this province with a view to make the annual races now satisfactory to owners of horses and to the public than lately.
