Mr Barton, counsel • for the defence in Long's case, fixed for next Monday, yesterday applied to the Judge on the ground that a number of witnesses for the defence had been intimidated by ruffians and larrrikins of Green Island, where the murder was com-* mitted. He asked the Court to state that it would punish severely any person brought befqre it for intimidation* The Judge said he could take no notice of such matters until brought judicially before bin.. The Chinamen lately imported are said to be the scum of Chinese prisons.
