CITY COUNCIL
The usual fortnightly meeting of the City Council was held this afternoon. Present: P. A. Phillips, Esq. Mayor (in the chair), Co\ancillors George, Hobbs, S. Jones, Macready, Prime, Bugden, Isaacs, Hampton. The correspondence was read and considered, also a petition from inhabitants of Field Lane. Sundry reports were brought up and passed, there were several motions standing on the list, amongst which was one^from Councillor Isaacs," That a committee be formed consisting of Councillors Jones, George, and Isaac* to make full enquiry, and report at next meeting on the right of Councillor* Smart to have a seat in the Council." This resolution was about to bo discussed when we went to press. —A motion by Councillor George, to the effect that the election of Councillor Isaacs to the Harbour Board is informal in ■ consequence of some of the councillors not voting, also stood on the list for discussion. [Left sitting.]
