GOLD PROSPECTING.
We are informed that Mr. James Mackay, junr., has received a letter from the Chief Tahou (formerly known in connection with Te Kooti) asking him on behalf of the native chiefs at Taupo to send down some Europeans to prospect the ground in that district, gold having been seen on several occasions. We believe that Mr. Mackay has communicated with his Honor the Superintendent on the matter. This morning Messrs. Barry and Nolan were despatched to the Waikato, from which they will proceed to Tahua to prospect the land in that district.
