MECHANICS' INSTITUTE ENTERTAINMENT.
An entertainment of a most successful kind was given last night in the hall of the Mechanics' Institute, and in aid of the funds of that establishment. There was a good house, the front seats being especially full. The first part consisted of readings and recitations, capitally rendered, and of eornet-a-piston and piano performances, both of which were warmly applauded. The second part wns devoted to the J-ithiopian Troupe. This portion of tlio entertainment was kept up with great spirit throughout, Bones and Tamho ui-ie contributing iimurn •■• v ivacity to the pr.irco.lings. The soi.; well selected anil well executed, and I c pun -an I humorous dialogues interspersed v. i'e givatlv beyond anything we have heard from amateurs in Auckland before. The whole entertainment was exceedingly good, though rather prolonged. We congratulate the troupe on the favorable impression they have formed, and the committee of the Institute on the able coadjutors they have found in the " Auckland Ethiopian Troupe."
