SOCIAL FUNCTIONS

AN ENJOYABLE EVENING

Mr and Mrs A. J. Read Entertain

On Friday evening Mr and Mrs A. J. Read entertained a number of friends at the A.B.C. Social hall for the double purpose of celebrating the birthdays of their daughter Merle, and of Miss Merle Gilbert and also of welcoming home their son, Jack, and giving him an opportunity of meeting many old friends. The evening took the form of a dance with games and competitions and various items. Music was supplied by Miss Merle Gilbert, Messrs G. Reynish, W. Frazier and A. McNabb. Songs were given by Messrs J. Read and C. D. Sealey, Miss E. Keegan acting as accompanist and recitations by Mr W. H. Davis. Mr Geo. Bilson won an Identity competition and Mr J. Read a mystery parcel.

A delightful rupper was served and several toasts honoured, Mr C .D. Sealey acting as chairman. Mr Sealey proposed the toast of the "King", a verse of the National Anthem being sung by the company. Mr Sealey then proposed the tcnst of Misses Merle Read and Merle Gilbert and Mr J Read, all three responding to the toast. Mr G. Bell responded to the toast of Mr and Mrs A. J. Read and in doing so spoke of their many excellent qualities.
