Very Rare Pish.—Mi 1 L. J. Vangioni recently seiiL a rare fish, caught by Mr W, Pool of sAkaroa outside Akaroa Heads in a crayfish pot, to the Canterbury Museum, Gin istchureh. Mr P. O'Brien, taxidermist of tlie museum states the fish is exceedingly rare and has only been found in N.Z. waters a few times. Its scientific name is Bovichthys variegatus Richardson. It has no English name that is known. The position of the ventral fins is interesting as they are extremely far forward. Mr O'Brien has made a colour sketch of the,fish which is considered a valuable addition to the museum collection.
Sheep Diseases.—During his visit to Duvaucheile last week Mr Siddall, Government veterinarian gave a recipe for pink eye which occurs in ewes and lambs. The lotion recommended by Mr Siddall is: 1 ounce of sulphate of zinc and 1 pint ( a bottleful) of water. The instructions are: apply a few drops to the affected eye every 2 or 3 days.
School Swimming Carnival.—At a recent meeting of the Banks Peninsula Teachers Association, when Mrs Harwood presided, it was decided to hold a swimming carnival at Akaroa next February for Peninsula school pupils. It was reported the school sports arranged for September had to be abandoned owing to the petrol restrictions. Mr Bastion's resignation as secretary was accepted and a vote of thanks passed to him! Mr Bastion has left Le Bon's Bay to go on patrol duty at Lyttelt'.n. Mr C. Minifie of Duvaucheile was appointed secretary of the Association.
