WAIREWA COUNTY COUNCIL.

RIDING RATES.

A correspondent signing himself ''Ratepayer" writes to the "Press" as follows :—

"I wish to draw attention to the gross l injustice which is being dons to the .ratepayers of the Kaituna and Kinloch ridings in the above county. When W-airewa County was severed from the Akaroa County the understanding was that the new county would l be worked as a whole. At the present d'ay this county is cut up into three ridings, with the Little River .riding comprissing half the total value of the whole county. The result is that the Little River riding, having a very small road nViieage, can carry on with a small rate against a heavy rate carried by the two other ridings,. Little River also possesses the only secondary highway in the county. Now, Sir, I claim that all riding rates in a county should be equal, but we have representatives on this ! Council who think differently, for the Kinloch members, at the last meeting of the Council, brought forward a scheme to adjust riding boundaries, which, if put into operation, would have given justice, as nearly as humanly possible to all. But to the amazement of nearly everyone our Kaituna representatives refused to support them. Their action l mikes one think."
