SUPER-LAND TAX.
To the Editor
Sir —I take it lam the landowner referred to in "Waster's" letter of the- .l'3th. inst. If n-c-t I am quite willing to take the position. Now for facts. I admit my land is held mortgage free; but it took my father and myself sixty eight years to get to that position. My Government jmluatiott is £33,000, rr,y improvements £3000. -I have not farmed my land 1 for some years; but let it, stock included to a returned soldier at prewar prices—less than 5% on the capital value. >My man, who has been with me for years gets £180 a year. My other man gets £3 17s per week and other perquisites. .My house was built in 19C1 to replace the old house built in 1831. As to motor cars mine cost £370 and is English throughout. The reason I go into all these details is to show "Waster" how far be can get away from a true version. What I do think hard is- that my tax should be more than doubled, not for returned soldiers; but for profess-I iona.l unemployed and seventy millions' borrowing. I took a man working on Gebbie's Pass "Ell" road from the pub up to Gebbie's Pass the other day when I came to> the Power -Board meeting. He said "some- of us are making up to 27s a day." I said- "I suppose you knock it- all down." "Yes of course we do," was the answer. I got substantially from my own observation this is xairly true. Now Waster" come out ir; the open and sign your nan>? next time if you are game ! O-thsi wise come and see me and I will prove to you th-.it I have understated' my case. Yours truly, OftTON 'BRADLEY, Charteris Bay.
