VISIT OF ARCHDEACON AVERILL.
The Archdeacon of Akaroa paid his first visit to the Archdeaconate on Tuesday last. In the evening the Ve&try met the Arohdeacon at the vicarage. Various parish matters were discussed, and the Arcfideacon advised that the boundaries of the cemetery be better defined, and that the spouting of the church be repaired. He also suggested that the font be repaired, as at present it has a leakage. Be also urged Church of England people to sign the book of m em bership which entitles them to vote. On Wednesday evening, there was a service at 8 p.m., in St. Peter's Church, when the Archdeacon particularly addressed church workers*. Taking as his text the VI. chapter of Isaiah,he spoke of the vision, of the Most High, surrounded by Seraphim, whioh appeared unto the prophet. He said that, in common with many others, he believed that the Seraphim were the the natural forceß which wait upon God, offering Him their services. The attitude of these angels, the spirit in whioh they offer their work ought to be a lesson to all churoh workers. In their great reverenoe, they hide their faces with one pair of wings, because they feel that they .cannot fathom the glory of the Almighty. They fly wilh another pair of winga, and these wings the Archdeacon took to represent active obedience. With the third pair of wings, the Seraphim covered their feet, thereby hiding themselves behind their work. These three virtues typified in the vision, reverence, active, obedience and self effacement were those most urgently needed by all who worked, whether in church matters or in the ordinary matters of life, and without these the church worker could not hope to benefit himself or the outside world. The Archdeacon left Akaroa on Thursday morning on his way te visit Little Akaloa and Okain's, He returns to Christchurch on Saturday.
