LITTLE RIVER ROAD BOARD.
A meeting ot the Little River Road Board was held on September 17th. Present—Mr H. D. Buchanan (Chairman), aDd all the members.
Correspondence was received from Mr Geo. Stanbury, relative to exchange for timber (for bridge work) for white pine tree.
It was resolved that, as there is some objeotion by ratepayers to the few tree a on tho road referred to being removed, that the Board cannot make the exchange, and that the Clerk be authorised to procure the necessary bridge timber where available. From Mi F. Hahn, offering his services as cattle ranger, and it was resolved to appoint him for three months, provided every offender having cattle trespassing on roads shall be prosecuted without distinction of persona. From Mrs A. Bachelor, asking that some footbridges be erected over creek in Western Valley, and also some repairs to the road. It was resolved that the Chairman, Messrs Coop, White and the Clerk inspect, and that they be authorised to have anything necessary done in this matter, and that they report at next meeting, relative to the feasibility of having part of this road metalled.
From Akaroa County Council, re Birds' Destruction Act. The Clerk intimated that poisoned grain is in no demand even when given gratis ; but steps were being taken to nave it placed on the various roads. From Mr M. Hayes, asking that parts of road, leading to his house in Okute Valley, _ay be metalled, and the Clerk was direoted to have as much of this done as is practicable.
From Dr Cook, notice ot the existence ol tuberculosis in a house at Little River.
9 Ie was resolved that steps be taken by the Clerk to obtain metal where available for filling in ruts on the road leading to Kur.uaa.
Mr Withel, manager for Humphries, waited on the Board, requesting that sjme
repairs may be effected on tli3 roid lending through Price's Valley. The Clerk was instructed in the matter.
The Clerk's action in letting the construction of some culverts on Stanbury's road waß approved.
Mr John Coop, wvitf-d on the Board, requesting that he be allowed ti i.btain s : x yards screening.'.
The request was gr-'.u'.ed, the screening being 4a per yard.
The Clerk was authorised to have the necessary thinglo by train for main road.
After passing accounts, for £863 Qi 4d, 'or payment, the Board adjourned.
