The House then went into Committee to further consider the Estimates. , September 9 Mr Barbel presented a petition from the Newtown hotelkeepers, praying that they may be allowed to keep their houses open till after the decision of the Privy Council had been known. The Premier moved that a Committee of Privilege, consisting of the Speaker, Sir W. Ru-sell, Sir W, Steward, Messrs Millar, Massey and Reddon be set up to enquire into the breach of Privilege by the New Zealand Times, In Committee, clause 2 of Mr Field's Dramatic Copyright Bill was struok out and a new clause substituted. The Bill was then passed. The School Committees Funds Bill was read a second time. Mr Hemes' Rating Act Amendmenb Bill, making native lands fully rateable by local bodie?, was committed and reported as amended.
