PIGEON BAY ROAD BOARD.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of ratepayers was held on Pnturday, sth September, 1903. There were six ratepayers present, Mr E. Goodwin in the chair.

The minutes of last annual meeting were read and confirmed.

The balance sheet for year ending 31sb March, 1903, was read, duly certified to as correot, showing a credit balance of £299 12s 5d to Road Board account, and £22 16s 7d to Harbour Board account, showing an increase of £11 12a 6d on year's working on Road Board account.

The Clerk stared that during the last financial year the ordinary work of the Board had been carried on, part of Kay's Gully had been metalled, and the amounts spent on the various byroads were—Fern* hill £16 5s 3d. Holmes Bay £10 Is 6d, Kay's Gully £85 11« 4d, Port Levy and Holmes' Road £15 17*, Pettierew's £3 10s, Paton's and Valley mads £13 18a 6d.

Mr Pettierew drew the attention of rate* payers present to the benefits that would accrue if the ratepayers would sanction a loan to metal the byroads that were mostly uiad for tr ffic. He had estimated the dis tance required to be metalled at about 10£ miles, which would cost about £2000 to complete. The money could be procured from Government at a rate of 3i to 4£d per cent, according to time required to pay off same. He thought it would be a saving to the ratepayers if a small loan was raised as a trial, and pointed out the benefits derived from portions of by roads aiready metalled. Mr W, Goodwin and J. Hunt, sen., also spoke in favour of metalling byroads where possible.

Mr Pettigrew drew the Board's attention to the fact that the transfer of the diversion of Hunt and Pettigrew's roads had not been completed, neither had the excess acreage been paid for. He thought the Board should grant himself and Mr Hunt some compensation for loss of seed, etc., on the area in excess.

The Chairman stated that it was no fault of the Board that the matter had not been completed. Howevar, he hoped to receive the deeds from the Board's solicitors in the courße of a few days and have tbe transfer completed. Mr W. Goodwin moved, and Mr C. Knud sen seconded—That the balance sheet as read be adopted. Carried. Mr W, Goodwin moved, and Mr P, Hunt seconded—That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the Board for their year's services.
