tDhe above teams having tied in the Flag fixtures, a final match took place Oα Satur , day afternoon at Duvauohelle's, Mr H. W. Piper kindly providing a ground for the oa" casion. A strong wind blew throughout the first spell, but died away shortly after half time. The game, though interesting, was rot a spectator's one, the smart collaring of both teams, nullifying back play. A most notioaebta faature was I he numerous penalty kicks for breaches of the iules, Okain's be* ing (jh.e principal offenders in this reepeot.
Okiiina scored a try iv the first spell, and that being the only score, they become hold - era of the banner till next season. Mr G. Sim peon, of Christchurcb, acted as referee, hie decisions giving general satisfaction. Okain's won the toss, and took the nor - thern goal with wind and sun at their back Akaroa set the ball rolling, Mason returning A free kick to the Rede, aided by fast following up, had the Blacks defending. Macintosh relieved by a high kick, the wind carrying the leather to the Akaroa end. A Black rush was well stopped by Porter, and from scrum the Glynan brothers rushed the play to midfield. Kioking by R. Mason again penned t.he Reds. Stubborn scrums followed, the Reds showing excellent de , fence. Munro marked, and kicked out at midfield. Bcrum followed Ecrum, free kicke for offside play losing Okains much ground. Fumbling by the Red backs endangered their line, and from a scrum on the line R. Mason dodged through his opponents, and scored for Okain's. The kick at goal was a failure 3-0. Half time was called shortly afterwards.
Changing ends, the Blacks made things merry, and R. Mason essayed to run, but was promptly collared, A free kick to the Rf d was taken by Munro, the ball dropping under the bar. The Reds now held the upper hand, play hovered on Okain'e line. A. Narbay got over, but the try was disal , lo.ved for picking the ball up offside. From the penalty, the Red forwards worked down again, but the Black defence proved sound. An almost certain score was lost to Akaroa through picking up a ball in a scrum. The game now became a teries of stubborn scrums with occasional loose rushes in which Gibbons, Gray, Narbeys, Glynane, Marsh, Patterson, and A. Mason were prominent. No further score resulted till "no side " was called. Okains thus winning by 3 points to nil. For the losers J. Mora, Munro, Narbeya, Glynans, and Woodill worked hard, whilst Leonardo, Crotty, Masons, Marsh, and Petterson played well for the winners.
