AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of this Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Cra. Munro, Leeie, Chappell, Oheckle7, and ETenning, MINUTES. The minutes of !aet meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Outward correspondence w»s read and confirmed. Inward correspondence was read •-• From Post and Telegrarch Department, acknowledging letter re improvement to mail route, anl saying that the matter ehould be considered by the Department. From Department of Agriculture, appoint Ing time for destruction of birds, in con nection with the "Small Birds' Nuieance Act" From Department of Health, inviting assistance of Council to help Department should any case of email pox occur in the Borough, and advising that all pereone be vaccinated, and every preparation be made by the Council for an outbreak of small pox. It was resolved to take no steps till an outbreak appeared more immin°nt. A letter was read from the N.Z. Mun : ci" pal Association advising that all matters affecting legislation bn forwarded to the Oonference of the Association to be held in Wellington during July. "Another letter was read from the same Association, saying that an aberraot nr\de of the various reeo'ii , tions of the Ataociation would be issued within a short time. From Wigram Bros., advising thah they had a complete stock of glazed works, etc., ready for delivery to tho Counci'. The matter was left in the Engineer's hands. From Mr Jesson, offering 10s for the timber of the ro<\d bridge close to Goodwin's forge. The matter was left) in Mr Cheokley'a hands. From Mr Glyuin asking for a return of tie £3 deposit on his contract wfth the Council. It was resolved to return the £3 deposit. FIRE) BRIGADE. Cγ Leete real a report from the Fi ft Brigade Committee, asking the Council to cons'met a looker to hold wood, etc., whioh could aot ac a seat aa well, and also to mend the roof of the Brigade's building, as there was a leakage during the late storm. Cr. Leete moved that the report of the Committee be adopted. Seconded by Cγ Hennfng and carried. Or Leete moved that leave of abeenoe be granted to Ore. N«wton and Armstrong fo this meeting. Seconded by Cr Checkley and carried. FIKANOB REPORT. Receipts since last meeting—Fees £3, FcavengeriDg 14s 6d, total £31456 d. STREET LIGHTING. G: Heuuing said he considered that ou many bright nights of the year no lamps were needed and that oil might be taved. It was resolved that Cr Hcnning Uiould use discretionary power and inform the boough lamplighter not to light the lamps on bright nights when the ecutsaefc ob'iged him to light the borough.
