OKAIN'S BAY ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Ok mi's Road Board was held ou Saturday, the 9th inst. Present-Mesa.a G. Mason, W. Ihacker, R. M. Bpurr, and R Gilbert. The Olerk, as Returning Officer, reported that be had received five nomim i ns on April 29th to fill the three vacanci ». One candidate, Mr J. W. Welie, had. Mr Gilbert, Mr Geo. Mason was ra-.lect.d Ch i man f r the (.usuing year. Mr Mason briefly thanked his coVeagur_ for the continued oonli knee they h d pla. d ' in him. A circular was received from the District Roads Engineer, Christ .hureh, asking the Board to furnish a ichedule of urgent works requiring assistance by Government. It was resolved to recommend the sp.nd ing of £1000 in metal, the Board being willing to provide £500 towards same, pnd, *' as a seo.ndary work, the extension of Okain's Wharf Road ard moving wharf to deeper water. The Clerk was instruct -1 to post a notice %in tha Road Board she_ o tin effect that »uy person putting pro 'uce or goods in the •bed stack same in an orderly manner, or the Board will have same done at the owner's expense, The Chairman reported thai Hartly Bros. had p id 5 per cent deposit o i the Valley Road metal contract and would proceed with the work. Mr Sefion had also accepted the metalling on the (.metery Roal at 4. per chain On the motion of Mr Spurr it was resoly< d that in future contracts the terms as to time "*■ for completion, etc., be strictly adhered to. The Chairman was authorised to have some work done on the Little Akaloa Road, and some gravelling at the Stony Bay T bridge ; also to have the approaches to J. Ware's bridge repaired so as to prevent soour Mr Gilbert reported having appoiuted Mr D. Waghorn as foreman, with somo men to repair tbe Chorlton and Wharf roads. Mr Spurr had engaged Mr J. Bailleyon the Stony Bay road. Re Wharfinger for Little Akaloa, the matter was left in the Little Akaloa member's hands to deal with. "" M- J. Moore made a claim of 27a for cost of replacing'a shaft brok.n through hihorse putting its foot through a hole by the side of bridge by Mr J. Ware's house. Mi Moure stated that he and his family h»d *" been thrown out of trap at the time of the accident, cau.ed by a h le which had been there several days. Mr Thacker statad that he, himself, before the accident, had repaired the hole by plaoing a stone in it. On the motion of Mr Spur, seconded by Mr Gilbrt, it was resolved that the claim be paid, Mr Thacker dissenting, thinking it d **b.<- preoedent whioh might enlail future eipeu.e.
