The Mayor explained that as Mr K*arney 1 ad not accepted the teime offered by the Council, the Town Llerk had pal the matter in the hands of Mr Strata, the watchmaker, who lud repaiicd the clock, au<l considered it would now go for a year without any additional eipeiue. In any case, he (Mr Btratz) could see to the clock if anything went wrong on bii monthly visits. Mr D.-.wson, the Poatmister, had kindly pro* mieed to see the clock was wound tip and generally locked after. The offer of Mr Kearney was declined »ni the action of the Town Clerk in the matter approved.

From Mess;s R. T. Biokerbon & Co, offering to bljw up old piles of the old jetty, level with the mud, for £50, the timber blown up to be the tenderers' property. The Mayor said Mr Bickerton had an ide* the consent of the Marine Department was not necessary, but, of course, this was ridiculous. He read correspondence with the Marine Department in 1889. in whioh they stated that, if removed, the piles mast ba drawn.

The following report of the Sanitary Oettttnittee was read by the Chairman, Cr T. ft Taylor:— "The Sanitary Committee met m Mooday, Febiuary 23rd, 1903, and beg to recommend that fresh tenders be called for removal of night soil within the Borough of Akaroa for a space of three years, with a proviso that a clauee be inserted in the agreement to the effect that the Conaeii have the right to terminate the same <t&4fc completion of the drainage scheme about to be carried out. He moveo $tt|. adoption of the report. it Seconded by Cr Leete. Cr Ingram asked if the specification bad been considered by the Committee. Cr Taylor replied in the negative. The Mayor said that the foremen wanted leave to attend JJthe Fire Brigades' Demonstration at Napier. The Chairman of the Works Committee said there was much work to be done in the Borough, and, if the foreman went, eomo body should be appointed in his place to carry on the work. Very little itone was yet quarried retdy for the crasher. Cr I r gr m, as Superintendent of the Fire Brigade, hoped the foreman would be able to git away, ac he thought the experience he would gain would be very useful to the Borough It might also bj arranged thai 'he should spend two days in Maeterton oa his w*y back, where the septic tank sy*t<m was in full working order, and he might also gither informa'ion regarding the working of the water supply system Hii Worship the Mayor and several Councillors, whilst acknowledging the t>it h of Or Ingram'e remarks hoped the aheenoa of the foreman could be arranged for.
