DUVAUCHELLE'S RIFLE CLUB.

The ttnnu«l prize firing was held on the range, DuvauchelleV, on Saturday last. The day was excellent for Rhootincr, being bright and the light very consistent, whilo there was no wind to speak of. Altogether nineteen members presented themselves, several of whom had never before shot at the target. Messrs Craw Stewart and Robinson, together with several other ptominent Q&mbers of thn Club were unavoidably absent. The day's shooting was, on the whole, on!y fair, but this may be accounted for by the Government ammunition of 1896, which v only reliable at snort ranges. Mr Bokyn'e score of 84 oat of a possible { 85 at 200 yards was a splendid perforiuance, whi!" Mr Hairis' 83 at 500 yards ; was very good, though, it may be mentioned, the latter ueeij 1895 ammunition,: which is of a better quality than the 1896. At the 600 yards range the shooting was very poor, the ammunition being ? awarded as the cau«<», as many of those who scored well at tbe 200 and 500 yards ranges completely fell away, although they enjoyed good light and no wind. Mr Boleyn's score nt the 200yde range and Mr 8. Harris's total 94 are both the Club's records.

In the evening the Club held a social, at which Mr F. A. Anson, Vice-Presi-dent of the Club, presented the prizes won during the day. In so doing, he congratulated the Club 'on the great interest taken in the shaotiag by the members and "records put up during the dayi Mr HW. Piper then proposed the health of the Uub in a very neat speech, coupling the toast with the Captain, Mr R. Stewart, jon, who replied most suitably. Songs were given by various Inembers, and after sriahing Mr Anfion a prosperous voyage to tne OJ«i Country, tlio meeting was closed with the singing of " Auld Lang Syne." Appended are the full scores :— First Class. (No Handicap.)
