AKAROA BOATING CLUB.
: The grand concert and drawing of prizes in tho art anion took place last night, the Oddfellows* Hall being crowded. MisV French played the overture very nicely, and was equally successful m a charming piano, solo. Mrs Harrison sang "A merry old maid, and •« Pins and Needlee." She was ia good voice, and both numbers were much appreclatedi Mrs HargreaveS gave " The Song that reached my 'Heart " with much ,'ahd < received applause that testified to the pleasure of •her audience. Dr, Lairig sang " "Father O'Flynn," and for an eneote " My Girl," both being excellently rendered, Hβ also gave a recitation. Mr Helbort sang 11 Sister Mary'e Top Note," and " More work for the Undertaker," and gave as encores " I aint agoing to tell" and " Blue Ribbon Jane." His make dp in the undertaker song was admirable, and he convened hie audience frem first to last. W? Bruce being indispoßed, Mr Black kindly gave thegreat dictionary trick of Professor Davis , . Hβ did it in style, having all ttai regular apparatoe and xlfscreet scrutioeers. '. :"•-.. .•..'.... ." . ;"' '. ~ ■ Th* drawing of the prices then tooß place, It was .done under tbe supervision of His Worship the Mayor, Messrs W. H. Hargreaves, A. I. McGregor and W. Penlington. Before it commenced, His Worship announced, amid cheers that the whole 1505 tickets had been sold, and complimented the Akaroa Boating Club on the energy they had shown in bringing the Art Union to auch a successful^conclusion, and also on the general conduct of the Olub, whiqh he characterised as the leading ♦athletic club of Akaroa. ~; The tickets wer* drawn in the usual way from two. revolving barrels by and Shaw, the first forty' numbers drawn taking the various prises, i the principal prke the |Ini(Hj! Rowing Club. Elsewhere will be found the winning number&. The steam launch ran from the Head of the Bay, bringing a number of visitors. The whole affair was a great success from ' 'first to last, and we. are-glad to be able to say that the Akaroa Boating Cluh, by means of this art union, ie clear of all , Site liabilities.
