ARBOR DAY.

Tbe pupils of the Akaroa Borough Sohool in the s'h.'6tb, and*7th standards wished to celebrate Arbor Day by providing afternoon tea for their>*janiora, and an evening'social for themselves and friends. Saving'the approval of the Committee and the co-operation of tbeirteaobers, the children lost no lime in levying contributions on 'their friends. The morning 6f the gala day was spent in decorating their large schoolroom vvith foliage; flowers 'flags and lantern*. In tbe afternoon the younger children were gathered into thiH 1 roota to erij6y the good' things provided; l "for them. '■

In'the evening there was a large con-; course, the room being as full as was de'eirnble. Various games were played with -evident zest. Numerous pieces of vocal and inr-trumenul music . were given by "present end former pupils of'the school* Mr Blick also kindly contributed to the;amusement by mysteriously wr/itini? on ni plate, a trick recently performed by Prof.. "Davis.

A very pleasant evening was brought 1o ft close by singing tbe National Anthem. ;
