AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
+ The adjourned meeting of this Council was held on Friday. Present—Hia Worship the Mayor, and Ore Watkins, Munro, Checkley, Chapped end Vangioni. MINOTES. The minutes of the prior meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Outward correspondence was read and approved. ■ \ Inward correspondence wae read— From Returning Officer, announcing Cr Vangioni's electioni His Worship expressed pleasure at seeing a gentleman so well versed in public works again taking a seat as a member of the Counoil. From Marine Department as follows :— " I have the honor, by direction of Minister in charge of Department, to acknowledge receipt, ol letter of 14th met., furnishing remarks on T. and S. VVeftton & Co.'s letter opposing the Borough Council's application in connection with the deposit of night soil in Bed House Biy ; and in reply, I am to state that the Resident Engineer of the Public Works Department, at Christchurch, has been requested to report upon the matter,—L. H. B. Wilson, Undersecretary. '' Fr mi Agricultural Department re Arbor Day. Ordered to lie on table, His Worship saying that, as Councillors knew, residents had taSen. the matter up. From Property Tax Commissioner, stating subsidy of £47 19a 2d had been paid to Council's account. From Mr Thos. A<latn9, asking permission to remove sample room from WagetafE'a. Hotel ground, alont; Beaoh Road, tj position opposite Court House. The application was referred to the Works Committee, with power to acti From Mr W. H. Henning, stating be had lately discovered that wharfage on Yorkshire fog (which, in' common with other seeds, was chargeable at dead weight rate of Iβ per ton) had a , ways been debited to him at $1 per sack, the charge for cocksfoot. He therefore requested refund of 8e 9d, excees payments. On the motion of Cr Uhappell, seconded by Cr Checkley, it was resolved that the Council could not entertain Mr Henning'e claim for refund. From Mr Joyce, enclosing copies of Hawkers and Local Authorities Audit Bills. FINANCE. Receipts since last meeting—Public hall £L; Iranpfer £2, Cr Bunk balance. £97 17s lid, less cheque £13 8a; £84 9* lid.. Acoounts to be presented—Clerk 1 month, £6 ss; foreman 2 weeks, £4 ; subscription to Akaro* Mail £1 Is; W. H. Henning 2 cases oil £1 7a ; E. F. Lelievre £4 lie ; total £17 4a; Domain Board £3; \V. Jolly, planting recreation ground 17s ; total £21 Is. J The accounts as read were passed for payment. COMMITTEES. Cr Vangioni was appointed a member of the Wharves and Sanitary Committees. WHARF LIGHTS. Cr Munro was appointed certifying officer under the Wharf Lighting specifications. mayor's salary. On the motion of Cr Ohapp&ll seconded by Cr Watkins it was resolved that the salary of His Worship the Mayor be paid half yearly. . ■ The Council then adjourned. Domain Board. At a meeting of this Board held subsequently, the some gentlemen present, the minutes of the prior meeting were confirmed. Accounts were passed as under— W. Jolly £1, F. Habn extra work £3 Iβ 3d. It wae resolved that the Committee be empowered to spend the sum of £2 in grubbing up ecrnb in the Domain This concluded the business.
