PIGEON BAY SCHOOLS.

Qa Friday, the the annual treat and distribution of prized in connection with the Pigeon Bey schools took place. The children mustered in full force despite the unfavourable state of the weather, a goodly number of the parents also being in attendance. The Cornmiftee, most of whom were present, worked hard to make the affaii the success it undoubtedly was, Meeers Scott and Pettigraw, being most assiduous in their attention to the wants of the young people. Everything being in readiness a start was made at 12.30 by tea and eatables of all kinds (provided partly by the parents and,partly by the Committee) being banded round. Atter full justice had been done to the good things provided. Mr John Pettigrew called the meeting to attention. He explained that through the indisposition of Mr Kelly, Chairman of Committee, be had been asked to preside. Mr Pettigrew complained of the apathy shown by tbe boose holders to school affairs, instancing the annual meeting which had lapsed because a sufficient number vvpro not present to form tJe new Committee. This, he said, was a disgrace to the district. The prizes were then handed round, the Inspector's report being the basis of distribution. Those receiving prizes who had passed their several standards were as follows :— Main School : Standard 7—Kate Robertson ; standard 6—Claude Hamilton, Andrew Knudsoh ; standard 5 — George White, Christina Puton, Jno. Sewing Prizes—Mary Paton, Maggie Paton and Alice Kelly took first prize in their respective divisions in the Main School, enri Alice Smith, May Innee and , Helena Hiyes were first ajt the Darning and Knittibg— Main School, Christina' Paton, Miggie Pfttori and j Afibe Kelly; Side School, Eaiily' lnnes, May Innes end Helena Hayes. Attendance—Main School, John Kelly and Charles Silt. Side School, Hannah Hunt. May Jnnes, Martha Scott, Alice White, Annie Barclay, Graoe White, Emily Innea, John White-, William Corrigal and Harry Hunt, Drill—Main School, Claude H* mil ion 1, George White 2, Robert Kelly 3. Side School, Claude Pettigrew 1, — Lyall 2. Frank Scott; 3. Mr Innes then briefly addressed the meeting, paying a high compliment to the teachers for the way the echo I are had advanoed under their care. The Chairman called for votes of thanks to Misses Pettis grew and E. Pitcaithly for examining the sewing, and also to the teachers, which were most heartily given. Mr Adams, who responded for the teachers, called for cheer's for the Committee, which were given by the children with great spirit, thus bringing to a close a very pleasant meeting;
