WAIREWA BOATING CLUB.
A concert in aid of the funds of this Club was given in the Maori Hall on Tuesday evening last. Mr Coop presided. The programme opened with au overture for piano, violin and flute by Messrs E. Coop, H. Reynolds, and J. Reynolds, which was well received. The following contributions were also well appreciated :— Songs—' Barney take me Home,' Mr Jas. Coop ; • At the Ferry,' Mrs Jno. Reynolds ; » Roses underneath the Snow,' Misa Jones ; ' Rose of Allandale.' Misa A. Coop ; ' Old Black Joe' in character, Mr Sands ; 4 Annie Dear,' Mr Meyers ; • Yeetarday,' Miss Moody ; ' Blue Tailed Fly ' in charncter, Messrs Thomas and Sands ; a farce, i The troublesome Servant,' by Messrs Belmere and Bean concluded the first part.
After an interval of five minutes the second part commenced with an overture by Messrs Coop and H. and J. Reynolds, followed by songs. * I am going back to Dixey ' in character, Mr Belmere ; ' Little Annie Rotmey,' ; Misß A. Buchanan ; ' Killaloe,' Mr E. Coop ; ' Coming through the Rye,' Mrs Jan. Wright; ' Good-bye Polly,' Mr Meyers ; ' Gondola,' Mine Moody; ' Little "Sam ' in character, Mr Sands ; ' Only a kiss and Good-byo,' Miss Jones ; ' Hop light Loo,' Mr Thomas. Tbe last item on the programme was a farce, 'Tho Diamond Mine.' This was well rendered by Messrs Sunds, Bean, Thomas, Meyers, Chapman aud J. Jones, and created considerable amusement. Encores were numerous, and the large audience appeared to be well satisfied with the evening's entertainment. Mrs Meyers kindly lent her piano for the occasion, and the accompaniments were nicely played by Miss A. Coop, The new scenery was the work of our local artist, Mr Sands, to whom much credit is due. At the conclusion votes of thanks wero
accorded to all who bad assisted to make the concert a succeps. The total proceeds amounted to about £14 15s. A dance followed which was well attended.
